Welcome to Driscoll Summer Math for Middle School Students
The primary goal for summer math is to help ensure that all the skills you developed in the past year stick with you over the summertime. For some students, that may mean practicing core skills; for others honing problem solving skills with challenging problems is more appropriate.

If your goal is skills maintenance, Khan Academy is a good source of practice problems.

Although you may be tempted to focus on familiar topics, instead you should spend time working on skills and concepts that gave you the most difficulty last year. Paper-based PracticeFor students who are traveling or will be not have online access, there are many math skills books and puzzle books that will suffice. For students who are looking for more challenging problem solving work, we would urge you to tackle the 100 Day Summer Challenge at Brilliant.org. You can create an account at:
https://brilliant.org/100day/ Brilliant.org has a pretty active community of learners who enjoy discussing problems. If you make a mistake or have an insight to offer, you might enjoy joining in on the discussion. How much time?Ideally you are doing a little bit of math everyday. If you are working on Khan Academy, the site will give you a sense of your progress. However, you are not required to finish your “mission.”
If you are working on Brilliant.org, you should try to complete the 100 day challenge. This might mean doing more than one problem per day.. |
